The development of a common modal shift strategy for Alpine freight transport and the set-up of an Alpine-wide approach for integrating and decarbonising alternative mobility solutions are in the focus of our ACB implementation pathways.
A common approach avoids unwanted distributional effects between the Alpine corridors and ensures that strategies and actions towards decarbonisation of freight and passenger transport are coordinated in the entire Alpine transport network to become fully effective.
Decarbonise Alpine freight transport
This pathway focuses on a common strategic approach to implement a policy framework for modal shift (e.g. Toll Plus or Alpine Crossing Exchange), to better support innovative technologies especially for rail, CT and public transport and to develop recommendations for the use of internal combustion engine vehicles in the sensitive Alps.
Alps as model-region for reduced working mobility
Due to the large share of cross-border commuter mobility, a common approach in the Alps is necessary for tackling working mobility. This pathway foresees the set-up of network of regional mobility coordinators to manage pilot projects as well as recommendations for Alpine companies to facilitate decentralized work and living solutions.
Integrate & decarbonise public transport
Increasing attractiveness of public transport and shared mobility options requires easily accessible information on services and attractive ticketing solutions. Also, public transport vehicles need to be customized for Alpine-specific needs (e.g. allow space for bike transport) and should use low-carbon technologies.
Alps as model region for shared mobility
To support the take-up of shared mobility solutions, especially in tourism destinations, this pathway proposes the implementation of an Alpine-wide information system (linking existing Apps), the set- up of a new label/network for tourism destinations offering shared mobility options as well as promotion of new shared mobility vehicles.
